The changing role of the manager

Whereas prior to COVID-19 a manager could sit down with an employee whenever they wanted, it is now a lot harder to keep an eye on the wellbeing of employees. Considering the increasing need and will of autonomous employees, for a few years now the role of a manager has shifted more and more from a directive form of leadership to a more coaching form of management, but with COVID-19 taking over the workspace, this shift has been greatly accelerated. This requires a manager that can easily adapt and reflect on their own behavior and that of the employees, which can be quite challenging. Managing nowadays therefore is a lot more about people and a lot less about work or results.
